La seda proveniente de más de un millón de arañas fue empleada para hacer esta túnica de 4 metros de largo. Su color dorado es natural y su creación tomó cuatro años y el trabajo de 80 personas. Los responsables son el inglés Simon Peers y el estadounidense Nicholas Godley que han estado viviendo en Madagascar el último tiempo, y allí revivieron esta técnica que data de 1709. Y a diferencia del cultivo de seda de gusanitos, ningún arácnido fue dañado o muerto en el proceso. Admisión gratis./ Silk from over a million Golden Orb spiders was used to do this 4 meter long tunic. Its golden colour is natural and its creation took four years and the work of 80 people. Englishman Simons Peers and american Nicholas Godley who are currently living in Madagascar are reponsible for this beauty, and they revived the spider silk-weaving technique whose origin goes back to 1709. And unlike what happens with the silkworm, no arachnids were hurt or killed during the process. The piece will be at the V&A from today until 5 June 2012. Free admission.

Algunos quizás se han dado cuenta que una constante en el blog es la denuncia de las tonteras que realiza el fast fashion. Este tema de verdad me inquieta porque creo que está mal. Mal como mentir, matar o robar. Las copias descaradas, el trabajo infantil, las pésimas condiciones laborales, la práctica del shredding, el consumo indiscriminado de recursos y la verdadera vida útil de una prenda... Creo que es importante difundir ese tipo de información porque la mayoría de las personas ignoran lo que consumen. Hasta los que se suponen que deberían saberlo, no tienen idea.../ Perhaps some of you may have noticed that a recurring theme in this blog is the criticism of fast-fashion. This subject really troubles me because I truly believe it's wrong. As in lying, killing or stealing wrong. The rip-offs, the enslavement of children, the poor working conditions, the shredding, the unmindful use of resources and the real lifespan of a garment... I think it's important to share this kind of information because the majority of people ignore what they consume. Even the ones who are supposed to know, are completely clueless...

Otro tema polémico que me está empezando a intrigar es el de los blood diamonds. De acuerdo a una definición de las Naciones Unidas, los diamantes de sangre son 'aquellos que tienen su origen en áreas controladas por fuerzas o facciones opositoras a gobiernos legítimos, y son usados para financiar actos paramilitares'. Kanye West describió muy bien esta situación en su canción ganadora de un Grammy Diamonds From Sierra Leone, y si no han visto la película de Leonardo DiCaprio, les sugiero que lo hagan ahora. ¿Cuántos de los que han tirado anillo preguntaron si el diamante era un conflict-free diamond y pidieron el respectivo certificado de origen?/ Another controversial topic that's currently intriguing me, are the blood diamonds. According to a definition by the UN, blood diamonds 'originate from areas controlled by forces or factions opposed to legitimate and internationally recognized governments, and are used to fund military action in opposition to those governments'. El abuso de photoshop, su influencia en el ideal de belleza imperante, la responsabilidad de las revistas, y la posible conexión con el movimiento Pro-Ana (pro-anorexia) es otra arista que vale la pena analizar./ The abuse of photoshop, its influence on the current ideal of beauty, magazines' responsibility and the possible link to the Pro-Ana movement is another idea worth analyzing.

La publicidad de Lancôme que promocionaba una base en el 'perfecto' rostro de Julia Roberts, fue prohibido en UK por la Advertising Standards Authority debido a quejas continuas de las consumidoras./ Lancômes' ad for Aura foundation on Julia Robert's 'perfect' face was banned by the Advertising Standards Authority due to continuous complaints of consumers.

Todo lo anterior, son casos en la moda se equivocó, por decirlo de alguna forma. Inspirada en parte por No Logo de Naomi Klein y en lo que nos contó Mr Tucker en una clase, pienso que mi próximo ensayo para la U va a compilar todos estos aspectos. O tal vez uno de ellos en profundidad porque 4.000 palabras no serán suficientes. ¿Se acuerdan como hace un tiempo les conté que la marca de mocasines de lujo Tod's financiaría la reparación del Coliseo Romano? En esa oportunidad pensé automáticamente que había márketing de por medio, pero la noticia me aclaró que el CEO Della Valle al ser preguntado por los beneficios para la marca, señaló que "esto era un proyecto cultural... Que había un tiempo para recibir y un momento para dar..." Bueno, BULLSHIT -pardon my french- porque hace unos días leí que el contrato le daría el derecho a Della Valle de usar el logo del Coliseo durante 15 años, y al mismo tiempo, pondrá el logo de Tod's en los tickets que compran los seis millones de personas que visitan anualmente el monumento histórico. Los $21 millones de dólares que se van a invertir, es el precio que la marca está pagando por ser asociada a las ideas 'Italia', 'historia' y 'tradición', y eso que sólo nació a fines de los años '70./ Remember how I told you a while ago that Tod's would finance the restoration of the Coloseum of Rome? At that time I instantly thought it was a marketing maneuver, but the news said that when CEO Della Valle was asked about what was in ti for him, he said: "this is cultural project... There are times to receive and there are times to give..." Well BULLSHIT -pardon my french- because I read a couple of days ago that the contract would allow Della Valle to use the Coloseum's logo for 15 years, and at the same time, he's going to be able to put Tod's logo in the tickets that are bought by the six million tourists that visit the monument every year. The $21 million dollars that are being spent on this, is the price the brand is willing to pay to be associated with the ideas of 'Italy', 'history' and 'tradition', even though it was born in the late 70s.

El cuarto invitado a esta sección es mi amiga Young Eun. Hoy en la mañana fui a tomar desayuno a su casa y comimos noodles, calamar que su mamá trajo de Seúl, hojas de sésamo y diet coke. Ella dice que soy responsable de su adicción a esta bebida, y bueno, puede ser. Juntas estudiamos en la biblioteca, vamos a la cafetería, buscamos tesoros en la car boot sale de Wimbledon, echamos la talla y apreciamos la moda de la misma forma. Ella es lo mejor de Londres so far./ The fourth guest to this section is my friend Young Eun. Today morning she invited me over for breakfast and we had noodles, squid brought by her mom from Seoul, sesame leaves and diet coke. She says I'm responsible for her addiction to that kind of soda, and well, it's very possible. Together, we study in the library, have lunch at the canteen, look for treasures at Wimbledon car boot sale, laugh and we appreciate fashion in the same way. She's hands down, the best thing about London, so far.

Más temprano que tarde, va a existir una aplicación para el Iphone que sea capaz de 'leer' el origen de la ropa, con tal sólo tomarle una fotografía. Imagínense, van caminando por la calle, ven a una chica que les encanta cómo va vestida, posicionan el teléfono disimuladamente a una distancia prudente para que ella no piense que son unos paparazzo stalker de mala muerte, click, y ¡listo! Saben de qué tienda proviene esa chaqueta maravillosa. La aplicación podría señalar además cuál es la más cercana a mi ubicación, tallas y colores disponibles, etc. Si las marcas de moda no están trabajando en esto ahora, no están pensando en el futuro./ Sooner than later there will be an app for Iphone that will be able to learn the origin of clothes just by photographing it. Además, me acordé que cuando fui al Victoria & Albert Museum, específicamente a la exhibición The Power of Making, estaba el vestido de la imagen superior. Y finalmente, sé que unas alumnas del curso que fui ayudante, presentaron como examen final un proyecto similar, así que no estoy segura que esta idea se me haya ocurrido a mí. Hoy leí en el Telegraph que UK acaba de perder su puesto y pasó a ser la séptima economía más grande del mundo. Lo anterior, por cuanto el país de las caipirinhas y la samba le arrebató el sexto lugar. Douglas McWilliams, director ejecutivo del Centro de Estudios Económicos y Empresariales (CEBR) dijo: "Brasil le ha ganado a países europeos en el fútbol durante un largo tiempo, pero que ahora lo haga en el terreno de la economía, es un nuevo fenómeno." Así que el orden global actual es EEUU, China, Japón, Alemania, Francia, Brasil, Reino Unido. Además, para el año 2020, el CEBR pronostica que UK caerá aún más en su posicionamiento, siendo superada por Rusia e India. Veintiséis de Diciembre significa sólo una cosa aquí en UK: Boxing day. Y no, no implica ponerse una bata brillante y puffy guantes para entrar a un cuadrilátero, sino que se trata básicamente de liquidaciones. Es feriado, pero el comercio igual está abierto. Weird. Se rumorea que hay gente acampando fuera de las tiendas donde han echado el ojo a algún producto. Una de las leyendas dice que los British más adinerados, para de alguna forma asegurarse una Navidad tranquila y sin problemas, le daban el día 26 a sus sirvientes para que visitaran a sus respectivas familias. El empleador les daba cajas (boxes) con regalos, bonificaciones y restos de comida (Wikipedia)... Ignoro si esta tradición caritativa continúa. Y como sé que hay algunas fanáticas en Chile y sale es una palabra clave del vocabulario, les cuento que ASOS está ofreciendo hasta 50% de descuento + free shipping a ciertas destinaciones ¿Quién no va a caer con eso? Este es mi arbolito, un cono centelleante que me regaló de mi amiga Young Eun y mi pesebre es una snow crystal ball plegable que se puede mandar en una carta (estos ingleses son tan creativos). El soundtrack del momento es el álbum navideño de She & Him, so sweet./ This is my Christmas tree, a shining cone that my friend Young Eun gave to me, and my crib is a collapsible snow crystal ball that you can send as a card (English people are so creative). My current soundtrack is the Christmas album by She & Him, so sweet.

Espero que pasen lindas fiestas junto a sus seres queridos. Y paz, y amor, y más paz, y paz mundial, aunque suene a miss mundo, pero es que de verdad que es necesaria. ¡Les mando un beso y abrazo del porte de un buque! / I hope you enjoy this day with your loved ones. Eso le dijo Daisy Buchanan a Gatbsy, y honestamente me leí el libro en el colegio, pero no me acordaba de esa frase. Ahora quiero volver a leerlo. Viene la película y tendencias inspiradas en los años '20, así que podría ponerme a tono. El tema es que mi amigo Quincy iba a estar de cumpleaños y entre las amigas decidimos regalarle unos macarons de La Durée, la revista V Man, unos tulipanes y una humita, porque Quincy es seco para ese tipo de corbatas. Esta última la intervine con una 'Q' en mostacillas en la esquina inferior izquierda. Todavía no se la he visto puesta... Mehh... Bueno, la cosa es que fui a una tiendecita de cartas y otros cachivaches llamada Scribble y allí encontré una tarjeta con la frase en letras blancas sobre un perfecto fondo negro, y pensé que era la descripción óptima para Quincy. A Twitter subí una foto de él (también he posteado imágenes de lugares, comidas y cosas que me provocan decir "¡Oh!"). ¿Y qué hace que Quincy sea cool? I intervened the latter with beads and made a 'Q' on the lower left corner of it. I still haven't seen him wear it... Humm... Anyway, I went to Scribble and found a card with the quote in white letters over a perfect black background and I thought it was the description that best suited him. I uploaded to Twitter a picture of him and I've posted images of places, meals and things that make me go "Oh!" And what makes Quincy so cool? His joy, his mixing of colours and patterns, a breakfast at 3 am and his honesty.

Y bueno, lógico que debía partir con mi familia. Año 1963. Aquí la tía Chepa tenía 10 años y estaba lista para su primera comunión. Se ve santa-santa, pero no lo era para nada-nada... Broma. Pero pasó por al menos cinco colegios. El vestido fue enviado desde EEUU por su madrina Patchy. Ella está posando en el Instituto Santa María. Chanel ya no es Chanel. Desde hace un tiempo hasta ahora que me venían desilusionando las decisiones de márketing de Karl Lagerfel. Ahora que veo la corrección de esta tarea me río, pero en el momento que me la entregaron de vuelta quería llorar un poco. Sobre la entrevista al diseñador Ashish, Mr Tucker me dijo "bad journalism", "purple prose", "cliché" y que no usara palabras en francés. Y lógicamente que ojos aguados en ese minuto, pero logré contener las lágrimas. No le gustó nada mi writing style. Y mi writing style soy yo misma. Entonces fue como una puñalada. Y lo peor es que él sonreía mientras me decía esas cosas, y me decía que no me sintiera down. Que mejor probara suerte en una revista en español... / Now that I look at all of the comments made to this piece of paper, I laugh about it, but when it was handed back to me, I wanted to cry. Mr Tucker said my Ashish interview was 'bad journalism', reminiscent of 'purple prose', a cliché, and I was never to use french words again. Ever. Este año me tocó cubrir el evento de Raíz Diseño. Partí muy emocionada porque para la versión anterior fui de manera individual y fue ahí donde conocí a la queridísima Feña, con quien hoy somos socias y amigas. Ahora asistí como reportera y enviada especial, ¡y fue inevitable sentir nervios!/ This year I had to cover Raíz Diseño event. I was very excited because last time I went solo and it was there where I met Feña, with whom today we are partners and friends. Now I was attending as a reporter so it was inevitable to feel nervous!

Stand de la marca 12-NA / 12-NA stall

Con mucho entusiasmo llegué el día viernes a las 9 am y por segunda vez consecutiva, las charlas empezaron tarde. Este año habían menos asistentes y no estaba la gente del retail que vimos el año pasado, pero aún así habían muchos diseñadores independientes y gente del rubro como oyente e increíbles panelistas./ I arrived enthusiastically Friday at 9 am and for the second time in a row, the forums began late. This year there were less attendants and people from the retail industry, but there were lots of independent designers and awesome speakers.

La primera charla titulada “Diseño de autor” fue muy variada. Abrió Felix de Vicente, director de ProChile. Él nos contó que la institución busca apoyar la industria creativa, porque es ésta la que genera la cultura e identidad de un país. ¿Datos que me llamaron la atención? La industria creativa en Chile no representa más del 1%, una lástima, teniendo en cuenta que ProChile tiene 56 oficinas en el mundo, y que ante cualquier requerimiento o proyecto, ¡ellos estarán atentos a escuchar y ayudar!/ The first talk called "Diseño de autor" was quite varied. Felix de Vicente, director of ProChile, was the first one to begin speaking. He told us that ProChile is an institution that seeks to support the creative industry because it's precisely this what produces the culture and identity of a country. Statistics that caught my attention? The creative industry in Chile represents only 1% and it's a shame considering that ProChile has 56 offices in the world, and that they're willing to listen and help any project that comes along.

Luego, continuando con la misma línea habló Carolina Belmar, del Instituto Nacional de Propiedad Industrial (INAPI), quien planteó la autoría como motor de la economía creativa. También mencionaron una serie de campañas que han realizado para fomentar las autorías, para así apoyar de mejor manera a los emprendedores creativos./ Afterwards came Carolina Belmar of the National Institute of Patent Rights (INAPI), and she pointed out ownership* as an engine for the creative economy. She also mentioned a series of campaigns that have been carried out to promote ownerships so as to better support creative entrepreneurs.

Seguido de esto, fue el turno de Martín Hubermann, de Estudio Normal. Él es arquitecto y habló un poco de sus proyectos y entre esto, lo que a él mas le gustaba de la arquitectura es la generación de espacios a través de las sensaciones y no sólo de lo material. Y bueno, nos mostró algunos proyectos que él hizo como el desfile de Martín Churba, todo a partir de un módulo, de la silla BKF, el cual personalmente, me encantó)./ Following this, came Martín Hubermann of Estudio Normal. He is an architect and he spoke a little bit about his projects and what he loved the most about architecture, which was creating spaces through emotions and not only from a physical aspect. He showed us some projects he did for a fashion show of Martín Churba involving the BFK chair, and personally, I really liked that.

Y bueno, esa primera charla siguió con el diseñador Nicolás Hernández de PRO2, un caso de un emprendedor en la industria creativa en Chile. Tiene cosas increíbles y sus logros ya son reconocidos internacionalmente. Finalmente, se encargó de cerrar Carolina Olmedo, de la Revista “Mujer” del diario La Tercera. Ella dijo algo muy cierto respecto al periodismo. Uno no se da cuenta de la importancia de los medios de comunicación, sobretodo en la prensa escrita, “tan solo imaginen que todo ejemplar de lo que uno escriba queda guardado en la biblioteca nacional”… Así que el llamado es a los periodistas, quienes no querrán quedar plasmados en los archivos nacionales con reportajes mediocres ¿o sí? Por lo que se lee hoy, parece que así fuera./ The second forum continued with entrepreneur and designer Nicolás Hernández from PRO2. He's got amazing things going on and his achievements are worldly renowned. Finally, Carolina Olmedo of "Mujer" magazine closed the forum. She said something very true about journalism. Tengo una nueva teoría de moda, la cual será la base de un ensayo que debo entregar en uno de mis ramos: Estamos presenciando el nacimiento de la primera contra-cultura oficial del Siglo XXI. En el pasado, la reunión de ciertas condiciones económicas, sociales, políticas, antropológicas e incluso climáticas, contribuyeron en la gestación de grupos como los Teddy Boys o los Punks. Hoy, el movimiento global Occupy y sus defensores -"el 99%"- se está configurando como el sucesor natural de aquéllos, dado el elemento ideológico que lo caracteriza. Además, se están repitiendo características de antaño, como juventud alarmantemente desempleada, crisis económica, y otros. El estilo de las personas que protestan es mucho menos 'espectacular' que en épocas pasadas, pero no por eso deja de cumplir su función de 'símbolo de resistencia' (Cohen, 2002). Chán, ¿cómo les quedó el ojo? La profesora Janice dijo que le gustaría leer al respecto. Ojalá que lo pueda fundamentar bien. Tendré que hacer comparaciones y distinciones, funnnn, en serio. ¡Que tengan un lindo fin de semana! / I have a new fashion theory, which will be the basis for an essay I have to hand in, in one of my courses: We're witnessing the birth of the first official counter-culture of the 21st century. In the past, the reunion of certain economic, social, political, anthropological and even climatic conditions contributed to the development of subcultures like the Teddy Boys or the Punks. Today, the Occupy global movement and its defenders -"the 99%"- is emerging as the natural successor of those groups, given the ideological spirit that characterizes it. Furthermore, some elements of yesteryear are taking place right now, like highly unemployed youth, economic crisis, etc. The style of the protesters is less 'spectacular' than before, but that doesn't mean that the dress fails to fulfill its function as 'resistance symbol' (Cohen, 2002). ¿Se acuerdan como hace unos días apoyé la campaña Pink Pony de Polo Ralph Lauren contra el cáncer de mama? Un amigo me posteó en Facebook que si acaso existía un Brown Pony o algo para el cáncer de próstata... Y bueno, no exactamente, pero aquí en UK existe 'Movember' (Mo de moustache + November). Este post viene algo tarde, pero la idea es que durante este mes, los hombres se dejan crecer un bigote para crear conciencia sobre la enfermedad mencionada y otros health issues. El movimiento comenzó en Australia el 2007 y en la página Movember los Adanes ingleses muestran orgullosos sus vellos faciales y la gente puede donar libras al que le parezca que los lleva mejor. O al más atractivo. O al más simpático. El tema es que todavía están a tiempo los machos chilensis con un lado sensible. Un bigote de 10 días igual es como sexy ¿o no? / Do you remember how a few days ago I supported Polo Ralph Lauren's Pink Pony campaign against breast cancer? A friend posted on my FB wall if there was a Brown Pony campaign against prostate cancer... And well, not exactly, but here in the UK there's Movember (Mo short for moustache + November). This post comes in a little late, but the idea is that during this month, men grow moustaches to raise awareness about the mentioned illness as well as other health issues. The movement started in Australia in 2007 and in Movember webpage English Adams show proudly their facial hair and people can donate pounds to whom they think looks better. Or nicest. Or cutest. The thing is it's not too late for chilean machos with a sensitive side. A 10 day mustache is kinda sexy, no?

Esta canción sonaba cuando Romeo-DiCaprio se casa secretamente con Julieta-Danes en la versión fílmica de la novela de Shakespeare, y es shúper mística como la siguiente tendencia. Caballeros, reinas y vitrales están apareciendo por todas partes. Me siento como en la Edad Media. Igual puede ser porque antes de ayer estuve en Oxford... Pero los signos que he visto vienen de todas partes./ To write this post, I played "Everybody's free"by Quindon Tarver. This song was played as well when Romeo-DiCaprio secretly married Juliet-Danes in the film of Shakespeare's novel directed by Baz Luhrman, and to me it's very mystical like the next trend that I'm telling you about. Knights, queens and stain glass are appearing everywhere. I feel like I'm in the Middle Ages. This might be because a couple of days ago I was in Oxford... But the signs I've seen are coming from various directions.

Esta celebración del pasado, creo que tiene respuesta en una cita que leí hace un mes. Y es que "El romanticismo en un signo de crisis, el anhelo por la tradición, por tiempos mejores. Cuando el mañana no tiene atractivo alguno, restan sólo dos direcciones: El camino interno/espiritual y el camino de regreso" (Barbara Vinken 1993). ¿Y por qué está sucediendo esto ahora? Lo más probable es porque el presente no está nada de bien, y el futuro no se ve auspicioso. UK tiene el peor índice de desempleo en 25 años (titular de ayer) y el mundo está viendo cómo líderes de diversos países se comportan erráticamente y son destituidos o derrocados de sus cargos. La tendencia del icon toppling que vaticinó la consultora Faith Popcorn está sucediendo right now. Y da un poco de miedo que sus predicciones se vuelvan reales./ I believe that this celebration of the past has an explanation in a quote I read a month ago. Les pido que tengan mucha imaginación y traten de situarse en 1993. Específicamente en el desfile de graduación de los diseñadores de Central Saint Martins. Visualicen una pasarela. Las modelos vienen caminando lentamente, y repentinamente, sus vestidos se mueven y a la altura de la basta parecen ser tirados por una fuerza invisible en diversas direcciones... Es que Hussein Chalayan escondió allí imanes, así como también en la superficie de la pasarela, entonces la ropa parece moverse por sí misma. Increíble, ¿no? No he encontrado imágenes o videos de lo anterior, pero creo que se hicieron la idea. Bueno, algo así se está buscando en el rubro de la moda, pero que la ropa logre moverse de manera autónoma./ I kindly ask you to have a lot of imagination and try to go back to 1993. Specifically at the graduation collection at Central Saint Martins. Visualize a catwalk. The models are coming in walking slowly, and suddenly, their dresses start to move and being pulled at their hems by an invisible force... It's because Hussein Chalayan hid magnets in them, as well as in the catwalk, so the clothes appear to move by themselves. Amazing, isn't it? I haven't been able to find images or videos of the above, but I think you got the idea. And well, something like that is being researched in the field of fashion, only that the clothes move autonomously.

Nuestra cuarta tarea en uno de los ramos del master le llamé "El desafío Primark" porque oficialmente odio esa marca. Mr. Tucker fue a la tienda-sin-corazón, y compró tres tipos de poleras de 3 pounds cada una. A cada alumno le fue asignado un top y a mí me tocó uno rojo horrible... El assignment consistía en style it de una manera que no se viera barato, o escribir un artículo sobre la prenda, o hacer una shopping page, o lo que quisiéramos realmente. Mr. Tucker nos recomendó en todo caso, que si nuestro fuerte era escribir, que nos inclináramos por lo visual, y viceversa, así que yo elegí combinarla de manera tal que se viera increíble. Esta vez me preocupé de arrendar un estudio, pedirle a mi compañera Kate que fuera la modeloca y le pregunté a un estudiante del MA de fotografía que me ayudara, llamado Josh Brandao, y felizmente accedió. / I decided to call "The Primark Challenge" the fourth assignment in one of the courses of our MA, because I officially hate that brand. Mr. Tucker went to the heartless shop and bought three types of shirts at £3 pounds each. Each student got one and I got this horrendous red top... We had to either style it in a cool way, write an article about it, do a shopping page, or whatever we wanted actually. Mr. Tucker recommended though, that if we had strong writing skills, then we should go visual, and viceversa, so I chose to style it si it would look amazing. This time I rented a studio, asked my classmate Kate to be my model and a student of the MA of Fashion Photography, called Josh Brandao, if he could help me, and he said yes.

que en Corea, la marca Samsung -reconocida por productos tecnológicos- creó en 2005 una instancia para apoyar y patrocinar a jóvenes creativos locales en el área del diseño de moda? Es como si Mademsa o Fensa en Chile decidieran creer en el talento nacional... No me deja de llamar la atención, porque por una parte la marca realmente se compromete a cultivar a estas personas, lo cual está súper. Pero de otro lado, me asusta un poco el hecho de que este gigante, no parece contento con sus subsidiarias en electrónica, seguros, industria pesada, ingeniería y construcción, inversión, márketing, parque temático y hotel, sino que la moda también era algo que debía explorar... Juzguen ustedes mismos el Samsung Fashion & Design Fund en su página web. Allí encontrarán una carta del CEO y la visión de la institución, además de los tres ganadores de este año. Hace un tiempo me contactó la agencia de diseño Murray de España, ya que estaban encargados de desarrollar el blog de la marca Springfield de El Corte Inglés. Me preguntaron si acaso podían usar mi imagen en el sitio y accedí, así que ahora la pueden ver allí en la sección Style in the Street. También aparece Musa de Lirio de Chile, y otros chicos. El sitio trata sobre cultura denim, así que los jóvenes fundamentalmente, podrán relacionarse fácilmente con él. ¡Gracias SPF por esta oportunidad!/ A while ago, Murray design studio from Spain contacted me, because they were in charge of developing the blog of Springfield, the own label of El Corte Inglés retail store. They asked me if they could use my image on the site, and I said yes, so now you can check it out in the section Style in the Street. Y sin embargo, la oferta para estas consumidoras es muy baja. Así nos explicó Anna Scholz, dueña de su marca homónima. Le ha ido tan bien con su ropa para big women, que ha vendido en Harrods y Selfridges & Co., y Crystal Renn posó alguna vez para sus catálogos. Anna fue invitada a hablar a nuestra clase y nos contó que no tiene casi nada de competencia, excepto por Elena Miró o Max Mara. Entonces uno se pregunta por qué los diseñadores no toman esta información y hacen un negocio al respecto... Anna nos dijo que Cavalli vende tallas grandes, pero es casi un secreto de estado. En Chile yo sé que La Polar es la única cadena de retail que se preocupa del tema y hace campañas, pero desconozco si el producto es realmente atractivo. Récord Guinness / Guinness World Record

El otro día formé parte de un acto que creo podría ingresar al libro Guinness de los récords. Pero no uno positivo, como "Fernanda Piedra se comió 10 completos Dominó en un minuto" sino que uno malo. Malo-malo... / The other day I was part of an act that may well enter the Guinness World Record book. But it wasn't a positive one like "Fernanda Piedra managed to eat 10 hot-dogs in under a minute", it was a nasty one. Real nasty...

Mr. Tucker nos pidió hacer una editorial de bajo presupuesto en nada de tiempo, y nos recomendó darnos una vuelta por Primark y car boot sales -algo así como ferias al aire libre, donde los vendedores se instalan en la puerta trasera de sus autos y ofrecen absolutamente de todo a precios ridículos-. Con mi compañera Youngeun fuimos a la car boot sale de Wimbledon un sábado en la mañana, y encontré hartas cositas, entre ellas el vestido de la imagen siguiente con un estampado increíble y unas mangas más increíbles todavía./ Mr. Tucker asked us to shoot a fashion editorial with no budget in no time, and he recommended we should go to Primark and car boot sales -an outdoor sale at which people sell things from the trunk of their car at ridiculous prices-. With my classmate Youngeun, we went to Wimbledon car boot sale on a Saturday morning, and I found lots of lovely things, including the dress in the next picture with a fabulous print and even more fabulous sleeves.

También fui a Primark para adquirir un par de accesorios y aquí es donde se puso fea la cosa. Cancelé en la caja el total de la compra y me dieron una bolsita con los items adquiridos. Comencé a caminar para retirarme del lugar, cuatro o cinco pasos -no más- y saqué el collar de la fotografía de arriba, para examinarlo nuevamente. Al hacer esto, la piedra falsa que venía en él, se despegó y se cayó. Así como así. Volví a la caja para explicar lo sucedido y me lo cambiaron sin problema. El tema de fondo sin embargo, es que no alcancé a salir de la tienda y el collar ya no servía. Su vida útil fue de menos de un minuto desde el momento de la compra. Yo no podía creerlo./ I also went to Primark to get a couple of accessories and here is when things started to get ugly. I paid at the cashier the total amount of the purchase and they gave me a bag with the bought items. I started walking in order to leave the place -just a couple of steps- and I picked the necklace from the picture above, to examine it again. In doing so, the fake gem came off and fell to the floor. Just like that. I returned to the cashier to explain what had just happened and they changed it without a problem. The bottom line is that I didn't even come out of the store and the necklace was useless. Its service life was less than a minute after the moment of the purchase. I couldn't believe it.

El lunes Mr. Tucker se refirió a temas sensibles en la industria de la moda, como el movimiento Pro-Ana (que les contaré después), Photoshop, el uso de piel y el fast fashion, y el máximo exponente dentro de éstos, parece ser Primark. Resulta que esta marca no tiene una etapa en el proceso de producción que se denomina "Control de Calidad", todo con el objetivo de abaratar costos y con el nefasto efecto de producir objetos desechables a una velocidad espeluznante como pude experimentar. El uso de recursos y gasto de energía no pretendo tratarlo ahora./ On Monday Mr. Tucker referred to sensitive subjects in the fashion industry, such as the Pro-Ana movement, Photoshop, fur and fast fashion, and in the latter the largest exponent seems to be Primark. It turns out that this brand doesn't have a stage in the production process called "Quality Control", with the aim to reduce costs and the negative effect of producing disposable objects at a creepy rate as I could experiment. I won't refer now to the use of resources and energy expenditure.

Mr. Tucker dice que Primark está bien porque permite que gente de escasos recursos y estudiantes puedan vestirse relativamente bien, sería algo democrático. Pero el issue aquí es que no sólo ese tipo de personas compran en Primark. Millones lo hacen. Es como si fuera Navidad todo el año. Y los niños que van con sus mamás a Primark, están aprendiendo que es de lo más normal que hay comprar ropa desechable. Así como quien va al supermercado a comprar un pollo con papas fritas. De hecho, la experiencia de compra en estos dos lugares es bien similar, porque al ingresar a Primark, es posible tomar una bolsa de género tamaño XL, para meter allí varias prendas y carteras simultáneamente. Sin ningún cuidado ni delicadeza, porque total, las cosas se van a deshacer eventualmente, así que a quién le importa./ Mr. Tucker says that Primark is cool because it allows poor people and students to get dressed relatively good, it would be a democratic thing. But the issue here is that not only these type of people buy there. Millions do. It's like it's Christmas all year long. And kids that go with their mothers are learning that it is oh so normal to buy disposable clothes. Pretty much like going to the supermarket and buying roasted chicken and fries. In fact, the shopping experience is not that different, because when you enter Primark, you pick up an XL bag to put in there all the clothes and bags you're buying simultaneously. With no care or delicacy whatsoever, because in the end, things will eventually fall apart, so who cares.

Primark es tan trucho, que los empleados al firmar el contrato de trabajo, tienen absolutamente prohibido hablar con la prensa sobre la tienda. Primark es tan malvado, que la práctica de romper vestuario que no se vendió, es común a todas sus tiendas, en un esfuerzo por 'proteger a sus consumidores'. Primark es tan miserable, que le pagaba £20 pounds mensuales (algo así como $16 mil pesos chilenos) a sus empleados en Bangladesh. Que conste que no volveré comprar allí nunca jamás./ Primark is so obscure that when their employees sign their job contract, it is forbidden to talk about the store to the press. Primark is so evil, that shredding unsold clothes is a common practice in all of its stores, so as to 'protect their consumers'. Primark is so miserable, that it paid £20 pounds a month to their Bangladesh employees. For the record, I'm not buying anything from there ever again.

¡Ha llegado carta! Bueno, no precisamente... Han llegado un par de botellas Fresita a mi hogarrr, todo lo que es el chilean sparkling wine con sabor frutuoso. Me está gustando esto de la Navidad adelantada... Ahora que es primavera en el hemisferio sur, vienen como anillo al dedo. Y bueno, tal vez también funcionarían para el otoño. Y el invierno... Y el verano. A continuación una receta que me enviaron de los cuarteles generales de Fresita para preparar un cocktail y compartir con las amigas. ¡Gracias Fresita! / Tyra mail! Just kidding... Damn, I wish I was in Chile... Kidding again! A couple of Fresita bottles have arrived to my home, containing fruity sparkling wine. I'm really diggin' this Christmas in advance... Now that it's springtime in the southern hemisphere, they come in real handy. And well, they could work too in the autumn. And winter... And summer. 125 ml Fresita
125 ml Té de rosas y vainilla/ 125 ml Vanilla and rose petal tea
8 pétalos de rosas/ 8 Rose petals
Cubos de hielo fresco/ Fresh ice cubes
Azúcar a gusto/ Sugar to taste

Preparación: / Directions:

Poner la botella de Fresita durante algunas horas en el refrigerador (temperatura ideal 4 a 6 grados)./ Chill the bottle of Fresita in the refrigerator for several hours (ideal temperature: 4 to 6 degrees Celsius)

Dejar reposar en una taza con agua caliente una bolsita de té entre 5 a 7 minutos, luego sacar la bolsa y dejar enfriar./ Place a tea bag in a cup of hot water for 5-7 minutes. Remove it and let the water cool.

En uno de los ramos del master, hemos tenido que responder un quiz de 200 preguntas rebuscadísimas para interiorizarnos en cultura de moda, hacer una photoshoot con nada de presupuesto en una semana -el styling no es mi fuerte- y matar a una persona. O sea no matar-matar, sino que escribir el obituario de un icono/celebridad del medio. A mí me tocó la estilista inglesa Katie Grand -que está vivita y coleando- y ya que era el primer trabajo con calificación, le puse harto empeño. Además era un written assignment, así que finalmente vería si tenía dedos para el piano o qué. / In one of the courses of the MA, we have had to answer 200 convoluted questions so as to learn the basics of fashion culture, do a photoshoot with no budget in a week -styling is not my forte- and kill somebody. Well, not an actual killing, but a literary one, that consisted in writing an obituary of an icon/celebrity of the industry. I got british stylist Katie Grand -very alive and kicking btw- and since it was our first graded work, I put a lot of effort to it. Besides, it was a written assignment, so finally I would know if I belonged in this place.

Compré una camisa blanca muy barata para usar su cuello como collar para la polera Pink Pony, y la hice femenina con glitter, mostacillas y florecitas. Además aproveché el estuche transparente para usarlo como cartera en el outfit. Tengan paciencia conmigo a través de las fotografías del proceso, para que vean el resultado final./ For the shirt's intervention, I was inspired by NY blogger Leandra Medine's collars in Manrepeller, and what I've seen here in the Spitalfields market. Mi roommate es... muy especial, por decirlo de alguna forma. Ella proviene de India, y su nombre es Asha*. También está estudiando en el LCF, pero un short course de moda -porque no fue aceptada en un master-. Me gustaría decir que al principio andaba todo bien, pero no. Asha llegó hace diez días a Londres y lo único que la he visto hacer, es salir por las noches. OK, eso no tiene nada de malo, pero cuando el departamento común que compartimos es aseado sólo por una persona (yo), entonces la cosa se pone seria. Asha usa la cocina, y la deja tal cual -aún cuando me pidió que le enseñara a lavar un plato y a limpiar el mesón con una danzarina-. Asha usa el baño, y deja papel con maquillaje encima del vanitorio, parche curitas por el piso y su pijama colgando en la barra de la toalla de manos como si nada. Creo que tampoco pegan mucho tres pares de zapatos en la cocina... Además, el viernes pasado salió por todo el fin de semana, y dejó MI tazón en su pieza con llave./ My roommate is a... very special person, you could say. She comes from India, and her name is Asha*. Asha uses the bathroom, and she leaves used tissue with make-up in the bathroom sink, and plasters on the floor, and her pajamas hanging on the towel handle. I don't think three pairs of shoes go in the kitchen either... Besides, last friday she left for the whole weekend and left MY mug on her locked room.

Así que sólo dime cualquiera..." Y ahí mismo el ojo derecho me empezó a tiritar, el aire me comenzó a faltar, y en general, un infarto al corazón. Bueno, no tan así, pero es que no tenía sentido lo que estaba escuchando. Yo le dije que era súper necesario estudiar el pasado para entender el presente y más o menos vislumbrar el futuro, a lo cual ella me quedó mirando como si le hubiera hablado en chino. Hasta ahí llegó el debate. Ahora yo pienso que Asha está enamorada de la ropa, y no de la moda. ¿Será suficiente para ser un buen profesional? Sólo recuerdo que el año pasado, dentro del marco de Pasarela Raíz Diseño, escuché decir a la editora de Vogue latinoamérica que los periodistas de moda presentaban cada vez más una formación deficiente... / But why on earth am I complaining about my roommate in a fashion blog? Yo creo que todos hemos sentido al menos una vez en la vida, el deseo de cambiar un aspecto de la existencia. Tal vez agregar, modificar o simplemente eliminar algo... Hubo una época en la historia, en que este sentimiento fue común a varias personas de distintos países, y no sólo buscaron alterar el orden político o las artes, sino que también la moda debía ser intervenida. / I think that we have all felt at least once in our lives, the desire to change an aspect of our existence. Maybe add, modify or simply remove something... There was a time in history, when this feeling was common to several people across the globe, and they not only sought to alter the political scenario or arts, but fashion as well should be intervened.

Figuras geométricas, bien infantil la cosa, pero yo no entiendo este cuento para niños llamado "La historia del pequeño cuadrado rojo" del artista, diseñador, arquitecto y fotógrafo vanguardista ruso, El Lissitzky. El año pasado tuve la suerte de ir a este evento maratónico de moda de tres días por Viste La Calle, y estuvo súper. El GAM fue el lugar perfecto para los foros, los desfiles, los stands de diversos diseñadores... Fue algo nunca antes visto en Chile. / Last year I was so lucky because I had the opportunity to go to this three-day fashion marathon for Viste La Calle, and it was awesome. Cultural Center Gabriela Mistral (GAM) was the perfect place for the forums, fashion shows and a designer's area... It was something never seen before in Chile.

En esta oportunidad, Pasarela Raíz Diseño continuará con interesantísimos foros; Trendscope con las tendencias 2012-2013 de la WGSN, Inside/Out lanzará el concurso Triumph Inspiration Award 2012 y en Diseño Sustentable habrá una conferencia y taller de la diseñadora Raquel Ariza quien se referirá a las oportunidades que presenta la técnica del fieltro artesanal e industrial en los distintos campos del diseño. Ojo que destaqué estos aspectos de otros que están contemplados. Y por supuesto habrá fashion shows de Paulo Méndez, Hall Central y la brasileña Fernanda Yamamoto, ¡y muchos más! O sea, imperdible. Bueno, no hoy, ayer de hecho, pero es que recién hoy puedo compartirlo y "lo que aprendí hoy" suena bonito. Resulta que en una de las bienvenidas a las que debemos asistir los nuevos alumnos, hablaron los diversos profesores de los distintos magíster, sobre los lugares que más les gustan de Londres. Ahí tomé nota, pero lo que vino después fue mucho más interesantísimo, porque tres estudiantes de diferentes master hablaron de sus proyectos finales. Uno de ellos, una 'ella' in fact, se refirió al caso de cómo una marca 'vegana' puede sobrevivir en una industria de moda de lujo y bla./ Well, not today actually, yesterday, but I "What I learned today" sounds much better and I just got a minute to share it with you. It turns out that in one of the 'welcome talks' for new students, various professors of several masters spoke about their favorite places in London. I wrote them all down, but what came later was way more interesting, because three students from different masters referred to their final projects. One of them, explained the case of how a 'vegan' brand could survive in a fashion and luxury business, blah, blah blah.

Y su estudio se basaba en Stella McCartney, y yo era como what? Y es vegana (no tenía idea que se aplicaba en moda) porque no emplea ni animales (cuero o lana) ni seda (la 'no mariposa' -recomiendo texto que escribió mi compañera Menchi en VLC) y sí adopta materiales como algodón orgánico y bambú y otros que ahora no recuerdo. Chán. Y eso es lo que aprendí hoy. O sea ayer. / Then she said it was Stella McCartney and I was like "what?" It is a vegan brand because it does not employ animals (leather or wool) nor silk (the 'unbutterfly') and it does adopts materials such as organic cotton, bamboo and others that I don't remember right now. Hoy es Fiestas Patrias en Chile, y yo estoy haciendo patria aquí en Londres. En serio. Ayer fui vestida así al parque Victoria donde nos reunimos todos los chilenos que estamos viviendo en la capital inglesa. Hubo asados, empanadas, pebre -gentileza de Ángeles que les conté el otro día-, corrida en saco, bailoteo y hasta piscola. ¡Fue una lovely fonda! Un poco de lluvia, pero no importó demasiado... Me encantan todas las prendas del outfit, porque además de lindas, funcionan por separado. Mis favoritas son el sombrero, la manta y las polainas. Me faltó el pañuelo para zapatear... En fin, ¡Feliz 18! / Today is the national holiday in Chile, and I'm very serious about it. Yesterday I went dressed like this to Victoria Park where all chileans residing in the english capital were gathered. We had barbecue, 'empanadas', 'pebre' (a spicy salsa mixture thanks to Ángeles, the girl I told you about the other day), 'corrida en saco' -typical chilean game for children-, we danced and there even was 'piscola' (our national drink). It was a lovely 'fonda'. There was a little rain but it didn't matter... I love every item of this outfit, because besides being nice, they work separately. My favourites are the hat, the poncho and the 'polainas' (worn over the trousers). I'm lacking a white scarf to do the 'cueca' (typical dance)... So anyway, happy 18th of September!

Cualquier esfuerzo común para potenciar un buen proyecto, es digno de informar. Sobre todo si es de moda y es chileno. Resulta que en Valparaíso, decidieron aunar fuerzas las diseñadoras independientes tras Pitti Palacios, Laboratorio Textil, Humita Diseño, Textilería Contemporánea y Bazar la Pasión. Ellas idearon formar el colectivo Grupo Factoría Valparaíso el cual tiene como objetivo "potenciar sus propias marcas y a Valparaíso como ciudad referente del diseño." Este lunes recién pasado se realizó el lanzamiento en el hotel Cirilo Armstrong (al cual fui invitada pero que por motivos de fuerza mayor no pude asistir) y "contó con la presencia del director regional de SERCOTEC, Luis Rivera." / Any combined effort to promote a good project, is worth sharing. Especially if it has to do with fashion and it's chilean. It turns out that in Valparaíso, independent designers behind Pitti Palacios, Laboratorio Textil, Humita Diseño, Textilería Contemporánea y Bazar la Pasión decided to join forces. They came up with the idea of forming the group Factoría Valparaíso in order to enhance their own brands and Valparaíso as a benchmark in design city. This past Monday in hotel Cirilo Armstrong was the official launch of the group (to which I was invited but couldn't go for obvios reasons) and featured the presence of the regional director of SERCOTEC, Luis Rivera.

Como les contaba ayer, julio y agosto fueron meses muy intensos por todas las actividades que tuve que hacer antes de venirme a Londres. Entre ellos, fui contactada por Fran del tumblr y ahora blog Mi(L) Closet para mostrar mi guardarropa a través de un video. Me pareció súper choriflai la idea, pero le pedí que lo hiciéramos un poco diferente, con movie magic... Así que aquí está el resultado, estoy súper feliz y nostálgica al mismo tiempo porque hay cositas que se quedaron por allá, pero en fin... Aquí está para que lo revisen. ¡Saludos! / As I told you yesterday, July and August were intense months due to all the activiteies I had to do before coming to London. En el capítulo anterior les conté que fui aceptada para estudiar el Master en Periodismo de Moda en el London College of Fashion. Luego de la gran noticia, dediqué julio y agosto para hacer todos los trámites que requiere irse a vivir otro país, como sacar la visa, despedirse de la familia y amigos con las respectivas comilonas, comprar un traje huaso y aplicarse un tratamiento de keratina. Bueno, este último no era tan necesario, pero es que mis rulos + humedad + lluvia + viento de Londres = desastre, entonces pensé que sería una buena idea. Además, me titulé oficialmente como abogada, ¡yei! / In the previous chapter I told you that I was accepted at the London College of Fashion to study a Master of Arts in Fashion Journalism. After the big news, I dedicated july and august to do all the things that are required to do when you're going to live in another country, like applying for a visa, saying goodbye to family and friends with a lot of meals, buying a typical chilean outfit and getting a keratin hair treatment. Ok, the latter wasn't that necessary, but my curly hair + humidity + rain + wind of London = disaster, so I thought it could be a good idea. Plus, I became officially a lawyer, yei!

El tiempo pasó volando, y no me di cuenta cuando ya estaba próxima a partir. Ahí empezaron a bajar los nervios, a llorar por todo, a dormir poco, a comer completos y lomitos que en UK no vería, etc. Para viajar, elegí American Airlines porque era la única aerolínea que me permitía llevar dos maletas de 23 kgs. cada una, y creí ilusamente que podría traer todas mis cosas favoritas, ¡pero error! Tuve que hacer una dolorosa selección, y dejar muchas, pero muchas cosas en mi clóset. Seguro están pensando: "bah, pero qué importa, seguro que se lo compra todo allá... Hay tiendas tan baratas." Pero no creo... Nunca me han llamado mucho la atención los grandes retailers... Lo vintage sí, pero lo que he visto, no ha sido precisamente una ganga... / Time flew, and I didn't even notice when it was already time for departure. That's when I started getting nervous, crying for everything, not getting enough sleep, eating chilean hot dogs and 'lomitos' that I wouldn't see in the UK, etc. For travelling, I chose American Airlines because it was the only airline that allowed me 46 kgs. in my luggage, and I illusively believed that I would be able to bring all of my favorite things, but no! I had to do a painful selection, and leave a lot, and I mean a lot of stuff behind. You must be thinking: "What the heck, she'll shop everything there... There are plenty of cheap stores." But I don't think so... I've never been into large retailers... Vintage I do love, but what I've seen, has not been precisely a bargain.

...Me habían advertido que el tema del housing o vivienda, era caro, pero no me di cuenta hasta después de una intensa búsqueda y visita a diversas propiedades por la ciudad. Finalmente opté por Nido, una empresa que tiene un par de edificios que los arrienda por completo a estudiantes y están súper bien ubicados. Son modernos, nuevos, con gym, servicio de lavandería, taca-taca, pool y un ajedrez gigante. Hice una application para un twin apartment y felizmente quedé. Mi futura roommate llega el 15 de este y compartiremos kitchen y baño. Tengo dos platos y un tazón que compré en Urban Outfitters y nada más. Y respecto al barrio, vivo al lado de Bricklane, y los domingos se arma un mercadito muy cool. / I had been warned that the housing item was an expensive one, but I didn't realize how much until an intense search and visit to several properties throughout the city. I finally chose Nido, a company that has a couple of buildings and rents all of its rooms to students and are very well located. They're modern, new, they come with gym, laundry service, table football, pool and a giant chess board. I made an application for a twin apartment and was accepted. My future roommate is arriving September the 15th and we'll share a kitchen and the bathroom. I have two dishes and a mug I bought at Urban Outfitters and nothing else. Regarding the neighborhood, I live right next to Bricklane, and on Sundays there's this cool market.

Paseé por Notting Hill con Isabella, la blogger danesa de la cual les hablé el otro día. Nos conocimos en el metro. Ella se acercó a mí, y me dijo que le gustaría tomarme una foto para su blog, y yo :O "Yo también tengo un blog de moda" y amistad inmediata. Conocimos una tienda vintage increíble. Se llama One of a Kind y tiene clientes famosos como Kate Moss. ¡Tienen que irrr! Es demasiada mística, la (no) iluminación, la música (ópera) y el dueño rastafari... También anduve en Camden, donde había una tienda para ravers que se llama Cyberdog, bien supersónica la cosa, pero igual había una chaqueta que me gustó... Mi hermana me contactó con una amiga de ella de Chillán llamada Ángeles, y resultó que a las dos nos gusta mucho la moda, así que que súper. Ayer tomamos té juntas en su linda casa. Tomé un poquito de sol en Hyde Park mientras leía un libro y vi a Mr. Big! Sólo atiné a decir OMG hi!... Camino normalmente por Oxford Street porque allí está ubicada mi facultad. También en esta calle, cuando me dirigía al carrete que Rafael -el chico que me recibió en su hogar por una semana- me había invitado, ¡me pellizcaron my ass! ¿Y ustedes creen que un hombre? ¡Una mujer!... Me dijo que tenía que hacerlo, que yo estaba en la posición (me estaba arremangando el pantalón), y se fue riendo con sus amigos, yo :O / I took a stroll in Notting Hill with Isabella, the danish blogger that I told you about the other day. I also was in Camden, where there was a store for ravers called Cyberdog, very supersonic for me, but I still liked a jacket... My sister contacted me with a friend of her from Chillán called Ángeles, and it turned out that we are both into fashion, so super. Yesterday we had tea in her lovely house. I caught a little sun in Hyde Park while reading a book and suddenly I saw Mr. Big! I only managed to say OMG hi!... I usually walk through Oxford street because that's where my faculty is. Also in this street, when I was heading towards a bar Rafael had invited me -the guy who received me in his home for a week- I got pinched in my ass! And do you think it was a boy? No! It was a girl! Hay algo en el ambiente que está pegando mucho, y no es la colección de Missoni para Target. Es algo que va mucho más allá. Creo que podría entenderse como una actitud o idea, que se ha tomado prestada del mundo del arte. La primera vez que leí al respecto, no pensé que funcionaría, pero ahora que reflexiono sobre ello, tiene mucho sentido. / There's something in the air that's very fashionable but it's not a colour, a silhouette or a specific length. It's something that goes beyond all of this... I think it is an attitude borrowed from the art world. The first time I read about it, I didn't think it would work, but now that I ponder about it, it makes sense.

Buscando noticias en el sitio Fashionising, llegué a un artículo que se llamaba "The new luxury: The Curated Wardrobe" (El nuevo lujo: El clóset curado). En él se señalaba básicamente que la moda masiva era algo demasiado común. Hasta vulgar: "Fast Fashion. Moda linda. Moda asequible. Nunca la habíamos tenido tan fácil. Esa novedad se ha acabado." Y continúa indicando que un fashionista, no debiera querer verse como el resto, por lo que su idea de 'lujo' va en una dirección opuesta a la de masividad, así que en términos de moda, un clóset pequeño es el nuevo lujo. Para ello, es necesario tener un estilo propio, una habilidad para eliminar del clóset todo lo que parezca común y convertirse finalmente en el curador de uno mismo. Para esto se requiere esfuerzo y práctica, dice el texto. "Es una tarea paralizante, pero irónicamente, cientos de chicas se paralizan cada mañana cuando miran su clóset repleto de ropa no saben qué ponerse."... / While searching for news in Fashionising, I arrived to this article called "The New Luxury: The curated wardrobe." It basically pointed out that mass fashion was a commonplace. "Fast fashion. Good looking fashion. Affordable fashion. Had we ever had it so good? That novelty has worn off." It continues to indicate that a fashioniser shouldn't want to look like everybody else, therefore his or her idea of 'luxury' is opposite to that of massiveness, so in terms of fashion, a small wardrobe is the new luxury. In order to do that, a defined style is necessary and a skill to eliminate from the wardrobe everything that ressembles ordinary, finally becoming your own curator. Diaramente visito el blog Stylebubble de la inglesa Susanna Lau, así que cuando leí que ella había hecho una selección de la nueva colección de Topshop, y ésta estaba en exhibición en la tienda insigne de la marca, no dudé en visitarla. "Susie Lau" decía la vitrina por Regent St. La bajada anunciaba: "Ten tu clóset seleccionado por la blogger detrás de Stylebubble". Al interior de la tienda leí la palabra 'Editado'... / I visit daily Susanna Lau's Stylebubble, so when I read that she had done a selection of Topshop's newest collection, and it was been exhibited in the brand's flagship store, I didn't hesitate to visit it. The window on Regent St. said "Susie Lau" and then "Have your wardrobe selected by the blogger behind Stylebubble". Inside the store I read the word 'Edited'...

Refinery29 es un blog de moda estadounidense que también visito diariamente. Aquí encontré un concurso en que el premio consistía en indumentaria 'curada por' Connie Wang -la editora global del sitio-. En otra sección, se destacan cuatro outfits del New York Fashion Week "cuyas autoras han curado looks que deseamos emular durante todo el año."... / Refinery29 is an american fashion blog that I also visit daily. I found a challenge where the prize was an outfit 'curated by' global editor Connie Wang. In another category, four outfits from NYFW were highlighted, stressing out how "lovely ladies have curated looks we want to emulate all year long."...

...Entonces, ¿qué hay detrás de las palabras 'editar' y 'curaturía'? ¿Por qué se están empleando con mayor frecuencia en el fashion world? Recuerdo que cuando entrevisté al diseñador chileno Paulo Méndez para Reviste La Calle, entre otras cosas, me reveló que estaba un poco atosigado con tanta información en la web... ¿Es que acaso nos vendría bien un respiro? ¿Necesitamos a alguien que nos diga "aquello entre todo esto"? Tavi Gevinson -la teen blogger de 15 años más famosa de la red- parece haberlo entendido así. Ella acaba de lanzar el sitio para chicas Rookie con una temática mensual el cual actualiza sólo tres veces al día porque no quiere tener "filler posts" o artículos de relleno, según dijo a New York Mag. Con estos tiempos de consumo, ¿será posible realmente un cambio de mentalidad hacia un "menos es más"? / ...So, what's behind the words 'edit' and 'curated by'? Why are they being used more and more often in the fashion world? I remember when I interviewed chilean designer Paulo Méndez for Reviste La Calle, he told me that he was a little strangled with the large amount of information in the web... Could we use a little air right now? Do we need someone to tell us "that among all of this"? Tavi Gevinson -the most famous 15 year old blogger on the net- has appeared to understand it that way. Esta primera semana en Londres ha sido una locura, pero ya voy a volver a postear con frecuencia. La foto de hoy me la tomó una chica danesa que conocí en el tube. Su nombre es Isabella y ella también tiene un blog de moda. Juntas decidimos ir a Notting Hill y paseamos por Portobello road, donde había un mercado de antigüedades y ropa vintage increíble. Lo pasamos súper bien y próximamente les contaré más de ella y de los descubrimientos del lugar. Por otra parte, el clima está súper bipolar... De repente sol, luego lluvia, después viento, y más tarde nublado. En todo caso, no es necesario andar abrigado estos últimos días de verano/comienzos de otoño. Respecto el look en sí, les puedo decir que el bolsito que me regalaron en un evento Topshop al cual asisití antes de venirme, ¡es muy práctico! ¡Gracias nuevamente! / This first week in London has been madness, but I'll go back to posting on a daily basis. Together, we decided to go to Notting Hill and we took a stroll down Portobello Road where there was an amazing antique and vintage clothing market. We had a really good time and soon I'll tell you more about her and the great findings in that place. Moreover, the weather is so bipolar... Suddenly sun, then rain, afterwards wind and later on it's cloudy. Anyhow, it's not necessary to put on a lot of clothes for these last days of summer/beginning of autumn. About the look itself, I can tell you that the bag I was given in a Topshop event just before coming here, is so practical! Thank you guys again!

Llegué hace un par de días a esta linda ciudad, pero no he tenido tiempo para nada más que buscar donde vivir y andar en metro, así que de momento sólo les dejo este video que me sugirió Berni, una diseñadora y compañera mía del colegio, seca en el tema de la innovación. / I arrived a couple of days ago to this lovely city, but I've only had time to look for a place to live and move in 'the tube', so for now I leave you this video that Berni suggested to me; she's a designer and was a classmate of mine in school, and now she's an authority in the innovation area.

Luego de revisar con Isabel las fotografías de las participantes y valorar la propuesta de cada una de ellas, debemos señalarles que estamos muy felices con el resultado. Se podría decir que hubo tres estilos de entre los cuales tuvimos que elegir (clásico, sensual y romántico) y cada uno fue muy coherente consigo mismo. Sin embargo hubo uno que destacó no sólo por el estilismo y color, sino que también por la preocupación del ambiente. After appreciating and checking out with Isabel the pictures of the contestants and their proposals, we must tell you that we are very happy with the result. You could say there were three styles among which we had to choose (classic, sexy and romantic) and each one was very coherent with itself. However, there was one that was more outstanding than the others, not only because of the styling and colour, but because of the concern for the ambience. In this regard, we finally reveal that Daniela Bustamante is the winner of the lingerie set of the new spring/summer collection of Miss Triumph. This girl combined lace, pearls and roses, which in a certain way, told a story of mystery and flirtation. Our congratulations to her!

Llegué allí porque Catalina Hernández, quien había sido mi profesora en Introducción al diseño, me vió tan motivada en el curso, que me ofreció una especie de pasantía en dicho lugar. A couple of years ago, I worked for a month in a design studio called Altres. I arrived there because Catalina Hernández, who had been my teacher in the course Introduction to design, saw that I was so enthusiastic about it, that she offered me a kind of internship. Primero que todo, quiero decirles que estoy muy contenta por las chicas que se atrevieron a enviar su fotografía. El concurso no era típico, y requería por parte de las concursantes de mucha creatividad, confianza en sí mismas y actitud. Creo que todo lo anterior se ve reflejado en las imágenes que me fueron enviadas, así que aquí están, jóvenes chilenas comunes y corrientes que se arriesgaron con la moda, y que están participando por un conjunto de la nueva colección de Triumph. ¡Éxito a todas!

First of all, I want to tell you that I'm very happy for the girls that were courageous enough to send their pictures. The contest wasn't typical and it required from the contestants a lot of creativity, confidence in themselves and attitude. I believe that all of the above is reflected in the pictures that were sent to me, so here they are, ordinary chilean girls that took a chance with a fashion, that are now participating to win a lingerie set from Triumph of their new collection. ¡Good luck to you all!

Esta semana me contactó la periodista Paulina Andrade porque estaba preparando un artículo sobre tendencias y lugares para encontrar carteras. Nos juntamos en Patronato para ver la oferta y revisamos los modelos que se vienen para esta temporada. Si bien las satchels de neón aún no han llegado y tampoco está disponible el modelo Alexa -que ha sido copiado hasta el infinito-, hay mucha variedad en color, texturas y estampados a muy buen precio. El innerwear como outerwear del siglo XX es una tendencia que comenzó en los ’50 con el uso de la camiseta blanca como polera básica, por actores como James Dean y Marlon Brando. Ciertos diseñadores como Jean Paul Gaultier la han popularizado, Madonna y Lady Gaga han experimentado con ella y fashion bloggers como Susie Bubble la han ayudado a revitalizar el último tiempo.

En la sección Re:utilizar del 1,2,3 Ojo de Águila se enseñan nuevos usos para la indumentaria y con Triumph, pensamos mostrarles cómo brassières pueden ser aprovechados al máximo en un determinado outfit.

Se nos ocurrió premiar el look más original y osado que combine un sostén como top, sobre una polera, blusa o la prenda que ustedes deseen. Ayer fui invitada a un riquísimo brunch organizado por Triumph para conocer las nuevas propuestas de la marca. El lugar elegido para lo anterior, fue el femenino y delicado Maryté Casa de Té, así que estaba muy en sintonía con la lencería que revisamos. También me enteré que Triumph está celebrando 125 años de existencia y que sigue creciendo, puesto que acaba de llegar a Perú y adquirió Coty's.

Yesterday, I was invited to a delicious brunch organized by Triumph to discover the brand's newest proposals. The place chosen was the feminine and delicate Maryté Casa de Té, so it was very much in tune with the lingerie we checked out. I also found out that Triumph is celebrating 125 years of existence and that it keeps on growing due to the fact that it has just arrived to Perú and has acquired Coty's.

Personalmente, les puedo decir que me gustó mucho la inspiración Jean Paul Gaultier de algunas prendas, así como la reminiscencia a la María Antonieta de Sofia Coppola en otras. Sin embargo, lo que más captó mi atención, fue un elegante sostén de encaje negro de la línea Valisère que me puse patudamente sobre mi blusa, y que pienso se podría llevar así, incorporando encima un blazer nada más. Personally, I can tell you that I really liked the Jean Paul Gaultier inspiration of some items, as well as Sofia Coppola's Marie Antoinette reminiscence of others. However, what most caught my attention, was an elegant black lace bra of the Valisère line that I wore shamelessly over my blouse, which I believe can be worn like that with a blazer on top. You will surely see something like that in the next Re:utilizar...

Estoy muy agradecida por el obsequio que recibí al término del evento. Los calzones tienen por la parte de atrás un detalle scalloped del cual The Guardian habló hace unas semanas, y me parece bien simpático. Además, en la hermosa bolsita roja venía una libreta con imágenes de los diseños del concurso TIA que les hablé hace un tiempo, así que muy linda y útil a la vez.

I'm very grateful for the gift I received at the end of the event. The panties have a scalloped detail on the back (of which The Guardian referred to a couple of weeks ago) and I think it's nice. Besides, in the beautiful red bag came a notebook with pictures of the TIA contest that I told you about a while ago, so it was very cute and useful at the same time.

Hubo un tiempo en la universidad en que no usaba negro. Lo encontraba aburrido y demasiado fácil. Con los años me di cuenta de sus bondades, y ahora lo utilizo en diferentes texturas y para destacar ciertas prendas. El look que les muestro hoy tiene precisamente esa intención: Hacer de los zapatos de Esteban Arteaga los protagonistas absolutos del outfit. Me gusta el aire alien del atuendo, me recuerda la colección Plato Atlantis de Alexander McQueen. Al diseñador nacional lo conocí cuando trabajé en VistelaCalle, y me encantó tanto su trabajo, que decidí escribir sobre él en Cosas online. En pocas palabras, él es un vanguardista. ¡Estoy ansiosa por ver su próxima colección en Santiago D-Moda!

There was a time at the university in which I didn't wear black. I thought it was boring and too easy. Over the years I realized its benefits, and now I use it in different textures and to highlight a particular garment. Today's look has precisely that intention: To make Esteban Arteaga's shoes the absolute stars of the outfit. I like the alien feeling of it, it reminds me of Alexander McQueen's Plato Atlantis collection. I met the national designer when I worked in VistelaCalle, and I loved his work, so I decided to write about him in Cosas online. In a nutshell, he's avant-garde. I'm eager to see his next collection in Santiago D-Moda!

Una de las cosas que me gusta de la vida es cuando las personas se atreven, se arriesgan y no les importa el qué dirán. No sé por qué, pero esto me fascina. Me pone feliz. Por este motivo, quiero contarles acerca de ciertas figuras del siglo XX que dictaron cátedra en lo que ir contra la corriente se refiere. Los temas que serán tratados aquí y en los sucesivos posts los expliqué en un par de módulos que me permitió hacer la profesora Florencia Adriasola en su ramo Diseño, Tendencias y Vanguardia. Además, iré agregando información que he ido adquiriendo de la lectura de ciertos libros.

One of the things I love about life is when people dare, take a chance and they don't care about what others think. I don't know why, but I am fascinated by this. It makes me happy. For this reason, I want to tell you about particular XX century figures that were brilliant in not caring about mainstream fashions. The subjects treated here and in the successive posts were explained by me in a couple of classes that professor Florencia Adriasola allowed me to do in her course Design, Trends and Vanguard. Moreover, I'll add information that I've been acquiring from certain books.

Creo que todo el desarrollo y progreso de fines del siglo XIX estaba muy apartado del rol que jugaba la mujer en ese entonces. En dicha época hubo increíbles avances tecnológicos como el teléfono, el dínamo, la máquina de coser, la locomotora y los primeros modelos de automóviles. En el ámbito cultural, tuvo lugar la primera exposición universal, se gestó la primera versión moderna de los Juegos Olímpicos y el estilo Art Nouveau iba creciendo en importancia. Habían espectáculos 'paranormales' y los circos eran muy populares. Drácula y El Retrato de Dorian Gray fueron publicados. En el campo científico, se descubrió la radioactividad y los rayos x.

I believe that all the progress and development of the late nineteenth century was very distant from the role women played in that day. At the time there were incredible technological advances like the telephone, the dynamo, the sewing machine, the locomotive and the first automobile models. In the cultural sphere, the first universal exposition was held, the first modern version of the olympic games was conceived and Art Nouveau style was becoming more important. There were paranormal shows and circuses were very popular. Dracula and The Picture of Dorian Gray were published. In the scientific field, radioactivity and x-rays were discovered.

A diferencia de lo anterior, el panorama de la mujer era gris como en la foto de arriba. Si bien las oportunidades de trabajo aumentaron considerablemente desde 1850 en adelante, cuando contraían matrimonio, dejaban de laborar -a excepción de las más pobres-. Una mujer debía hacer lo que su marido le dijera, quien era su protector, consejero y dueño, ya que hasta 1884 una mujer era enumerada como una de las posesiones de éste. Ni hablar del sufragio. Ellas sólo debían ser hermosas, recatadas, amorosas e inteligentes. Su silueta debía asemejar el de un reloj de arena, y para esto, se empleaban corsés los cuales podían llegar a deformar órganos internos e incluso causar la muerte. Cabe destacar también que la mujer requería la ayuda de otra persona para poder vestirse, por lo que era un ser extremadamente dependiente.

Unlike the above, the situation for women was boring. Even though there was a substantial increase in job opportunities for them from 1850, when the got married, they quit their jobs -except for the poorer ones-. A woman was supposed to do what her husband told her to do, and he was her guardian, advisor and owner, because up to 1884 a woman was listed as one of his belongings. Let alone to vote. They just had to be beautiful, demure, loving and intelligent. Their silhouette was supposed to resemble an hourglass and for this, they wore corsets that could distort their internal organs and even cause death. It should be noted too that women needed the help of others so as to get dressed, for which she was an extremely dependent being.

Paul Poiret fue el primer diseñador en liberar a la mujer de una de sus ataduras. Según Mark Tungate en Marcas de Moda, Marcar el estilo de Armani a Zara, lo que él hizo fue "una revolución en la indumentaria femenina porque eliminó el corsé de una vez por todas." La mujer se pudo vestir por sí misma. Además, se inspiró en exóticos Ballets Rusos y "diseñó variaciones del kimono y de los pantalones holgados que llevaban las odaliscas de los harenes." Women could finally dress by themselves. Furthermore, he was inspired by exotic Russian Ballets and he "designed kimono variations and loose pants that wore belly dancers from harems." In 1911 he became "the first couturier to launch a perfume with his brand." He organized 'nomad' runway shows (perhaps the pioneer in pop-up events?), designed dresses for Sarah Bernhardt (equivalent to dress someone like Scarlett Johanson) and he inaugurated an atelier where furniture was made (we can say for certain that Poiret was Ralph Lauren or Giorgio Armani's guru). Poiret was basically an eminence in marketing.

Madeleine Vionnet es reconocida mundialmente por sus vestidos de estilo griego y por introducir el corte al bies. Esto último le permitió confeccionar indumentaria elegante que se ajustaba al cuerpo, acentuando naturalmente las curvas de la mujer sin la necesidad de un corsé, rellenos o refuerzo alguno. De esta manera, se integraron "comodidad y movimiento al mismo tiempo."

Por todo lo antes descrito, pienso que estos diseñadores con sus creaciones a la vez que impusieron un nuevo modelo, rompieron con los cánones establecidos sobre la mujer y contribuyeron a que ésta comunicara a través de su vestuario, una actitud más soñadora, pragmática y sensual de la vida. La Generación Anti-Corsé actualizó a la mujer y la preparó para enfrentar el siglo XX de la mejor manera: Con estilo.

Bueno, este no es precisamente el outfit de hoy, pero me sirvió para las primeras noches de invierno que aún no estaban tan frías. Ayer, "El Fashionista" de la revista Ya (el periodista Juan Luis Salinas) exclamó "¡No!" al pantalón saruel a lo Mc Hammer y lo compara al horrible híbrido de la bota-chala. Está muy bien que no sea de su agrado, pero yo no entiendo cómo puede relacionar una prenda actualizada con algún estampado, y una mezcla de calzado que no es ni uno ni lo otro... Yo pienso que no tomó las clases de Florencia Adriasola sobre "Diseño, Tendencias y Vanguardia" donde aprendimos el verdadero significado de la palabra "híbrido"... Esto último no es su culpa, pero no me gusta que confunda a las mujeres que leen esa publicación. En fin, recuerdo que con este look me sentí cómoda y femenina. ¡Saludos!

Well, this is not precisely today's outfit but, it came in handy for the first nights of winter that at the time, weren't so cold yet. Yesterday, Ya magazine's "El Fashionista" (journalist Juan Luis Salinas) exclaimed a big "No!" to the sarouel pant Mc Hammer style and compared it to the hideous hybrid of the sandal-boot. It's ok that he is not into it, but I don't understand how he can relate an updated garment with a random print, and a mixture of footwear that is neither one or the other... I think he didn't take Florencia Adriasola's course "Design, Trends and Vanguard" where we learned the true meaning of the word "hybrid"... The latter is not his fault, but I don't like that he confuses the readers of that publication. Anyway, I remember feeling comfy and feminine with this look. Greetings!

...que la moda es hermana de la muerte? Al menos eso cree la autora argentina Susana Saulquin en su libro La muerte de la moda, el día después. Reproduzco aquí parte del diálogo que ella ha inventado entre esos dos fenómenos de la vida para que sepan el por qué de su parentesco:

"Moda: ¿No me conoces?
Muerte: Deberías saber que tengo mala vista y que no puedo usar gafas, porque los ingleses no las fabrican tales que me sirvan, y aunque las fabricasen, yo no tendría dónde colgármelas.
Moda: Yo soy la Moda, tu hermana.
Muerte: ¿Mi hermana?
Moda: Sí, ¿no recuerdas que las dos hemos nacido de la caducidad?
Muerte: Qué he de recordar si yo soy enemiga capital de la memoria.
Moda: Pero yo bien me acuerdo, y sé que tanto la una como la otra hacemos lo posible por deshacer y cambiar continuamente las cosas de acá, si bien tú vayas a conseguir este efecto por un camino y yo por otro..."

...that death is fashion's sister? At least that is what Argentinian author Susana Saulquin believes in her book La muerte de la moda, el día después. Here I reproduce part of the dialogue that she has invented between those two phenomena of life so yo know why they are related:

"Fashion: Don't you know me?
Death: You should know that I have poor eyesight and that I can't wear glasses because the British do not make such that are of use to me, and even if they made them, I wouldn't have where to hang them in me.
Fashion: I am Fashion, your sister.
Death: My sister?
Fashion: Yes, don't you remember that both of us were born from caducity?
Death: How am I supposed to remember if I am the leading enemy of memory.

Superheroes: Fashion and Fantasy

Ya hemos examinado la primera mitad del libro, y ninguna demanda todavía, así que ahora vamos por la segunda.

En el quinto capítulo, The Armored Body, se hace referencia a los superhéroes que no tienen súper-poderes, pero que en lugar de ello, tienen un súper traje que los ayuda a combatir a los malvados. Es el caso de cha-na-na-na-na-nanana, cha-na-na-na-nanana Batmaaan! y Iron Man. Respecto el primero de ellos, se señala que "mediante una disciplina obsesiva y militar, se convirtió a sí mismo en una máquina de pelea, blindado con un arsenal de gadgets de lucha contra el crimen (...). La identidad de Batman, incluido su nombre y traje, fue inspirada por el encuentro de Bruce Wayne con un murciélago mientras buscaba un camuflaje para infundir terror en los corazones de los criminales. (...) la capa fue inspirada por los dibujos de un ornithopter de Leonardo Da Vinci. El color y el diseño [del traje] hablan de sus asociaciones -noche, miedo, y lo sobrenatural- como también de su modus operandi -ocultación, sigilo y sorpresa."

"El cuerpo blindado alcanza su apogeo en Iron Man (...). Éste tuvo su origen en la guerra de Vietnam, donde Tony Stark, fabricante de municiones, es capturado por el Viet Cong, luego de que por una trampa explosiva recibe pedacitos de metralla en su pecho. Los malos se enteran de que Stark es un inventor, así que le ofrecen ayudarlo a remover las piezas de artillería a cambio de que él elabore armas de combate. En lugar de eso, Stark construye un traje con un marcapasos a partir de hierro. (...) Al igual que Batman, Iron Man sirve como una metáfora efectiva de paranoia defensiva, nuestras debilidades, limitaciones y vulnerabilidades humanas. Estos diseñadores invocan una conciencia exagerada de la fragilidad de la carne."

La última frase de este capítulo es reveladora: "El cuerpo blindado, con su proyección de fuerza implacable y poder indestructible, escuda en su centro la humanidad esencial y la sensible vulnerabilidad del superhéroe mortal."

Pequeña reflexión

Lo de las copias y el made in China me ha quedado rondando la cabeza. La característica de desechable de la mayoría de la ropa, me ha llevado a pensar que en al menos una parte del futuro, habrá un vacío de atuendos vintage. Será un período en que no habrá una abundancia de vestuario usado porque éste simplemente, estaba destinado a durar 1 año o menos desde el momento de su creación. Por el contrario, la indumentaria hecha a medida y confeccionada a partir de buenos materiales, subsistirá, y dada la escasez de este tipo de bien, tendrá un precio elevado. En otro escenario, una madre le dirá a su hija: "Lamentablemente, no tengo prendas que yo usaba a tu edad", y no podrá continuarse con ese maravilloso traspaso generacional de historias y vivencias.

Así que ya saben, a invertir en una pieza de calidad representativa de esta década, porque en un tiempo más, su valor se verá incrementado... Tal vez un museo rescate ese item y lo considere un producto de nuestra cultura digno de ser exhibido tras una vitrina de vidrio. Estará junto a un collar de perlas de las flappers de los '20 o chaquetas con hombreras de los '80, no precisamente por su silueta, colores o texturas, sino porque fue algo que se apartó de la horrible tendencia imperante de la época: el fast fashion.

En el colegio nos enseñan que no hay que copiar o de otra forma se obtiene nota uno en las pruebas. En mi universidad, si se descubre que un estudiante de periodismo plagia un trabajo, es expulsado de ésta. En la carrera de derecho se puede aprender que las obras literarias, artísticas y científicas están protegidas por ley. Por todo lo anterior, la copia me da asco. Me causa repulsión. Creo que copiar es una forma de robar creatividad, perder una oportunidad de ser original, cometer errores garrafales y más que nada, es flojera mental en cantidades industriales. De manera que cuando veo la publicidad de Falabella en las calles santiaguinas, me dan ganas de vomitar:

Esta empresa copia deliberadamente a Gucci (y no es la primera vez que lo hace; es la primera vez que me quejo públicamente), y de alguna forma, está bien y es aceptado por la sociedad. Algunos van a esgrimir que gracias a este tipo de tiendas, las tendencias son más asequibles para el común de los mortales, pero ¿en qué minuto nació la necesidad de estar vestidos iguales a lo que enseñan las revistas (y por qué este actuar se perpetúa en el tiempo)? ¿De dónde surgió la idea de que la imitación barata era la solución a todos nuestros problemas? ¿Por qué no se combate a estos piratas institucionalizados que mandan a hacer todo a China, con la misma fuerza con que se alega contra el uso de pieles? Y en relación a esta última pregunta, ¿por qué la explotación de un asiático es menos importante que la vida de un cocodrilo?...

P.D.: ¿Gucci estará al tanto de lo que está haciendo Falabella? ¿Cómo sería la batalla legal?

¡Primera producción de moda!

Es súper reencontrarse con las personas, sobre todo si es para hacer algo entretenido... Pablo, un amigo de Concepción que no veía hacía tiempo, me contó sobre sus andanzas fotográficas y cineastas, y resulta que durante una estadía en España estuvo inmerso un poco en la onda fashion. Ahora está aquí y está estructurando un portafolio de su trabajo. Yo le conté acerca de mi futuro en el periodismo de la moda, y algo le debe haber hecho 'clic' que me invitó a que hiciéramos una fotografía juntos para un concurso de la marca Nixon. Él quería retratar el tema del snowboard y unas chicas que van a practicar dicho deporte, así que me pidió que me encargara de la indumentaria. Participamos en la categoría pro y los requisitos decían relación con que la imagen fuera lifestyle y en blanco y negro. Estamos muy contentos con el resultado y espero darles buenas noticias pronto. Triumph Inspiration Award: La ganadora

Triumph Inspiration Award

Me contaron que este miércoles 6 de julio tendrá lugar la gran final del Triumph Inspiration Award 2011 (TIA) en Alemania, ¡y lo voy a seguir con fervor porque hay una representante chilensis entre los finalistas! Daniela Alegría, es estudiante chilena de segundo año de diseño gráfico de la UDLA, y va a competir con su propuesta "Herencia Compartida". En la imagen inferior la modelo Lily Cole con su creación:

"El ganador del primer lugar en el TIA 2011, podrá convertir su diseño en una pieza comercial con una edición limitada que será vendida en Tiendas Triumph seleccionadas de todo el mundo. Además, obtendrá un premio de 15.000 euros." Hay más de 30 diseños en carrera, pero aquí hice una selección de los que más llamaron mi atención:
